Fillmore Street - San Francisco

Missing

One could easily spend an entire day wandering a mere five-block stretch of the adorably chic Fillmore Street in San Francisco. A walk down Fillmore Street will put a smile on the face and a spring in the step of any dedicated shopper. Upscale boutiques sidle up to cozy cafes, and the tree-lined sidewalks inject a dose of nature into the middle of the big city. A great place for people watching and trend spotting, Fillmore Street is a must on your San Francisco shopping checklist.

Home furnishing and decorating stores may be the category most well represented on Fillmore Street. Home goods designer Jonathan Adler’s (2133 Fillmore St.) boutique of the same name is filled with the likes of ikat throw pillows, faux zebra rugs, and geometric chandeliers all resembling iconic items found in 1960’s Hitchcock films. One can perfectly visualize Tippi Hedren sipping a cocktail while reclining on a mod, chartreuse sofa. On the opposite end of the design spectrum lies Rachel Ashwell’s Shabby Chic boutique. Reminiscent of a Parisian flea market, Shabby Chic sells pastel sheets, lacy curtains, and liberty-print style duvet covers. Other home stores worth visiting include the garden mecca Smith and Hawken (2040 Fillmore St.), and Nest (2300 Fillmore St.)—a darling gem of a store selling French-inspired interiors and knick-knacks.

For fantastically functional skin care products, give Kiehl’s (2360 Fillmore St.) a try. This New York City based apothecary has been whipping up delightful concoctions for the face, hair, and body since 1851. Try the ultra-moisturizing lip balm once and you’ll never go back to your cherry Chapstick again. The king of quirk, Marc Jacobs (2142 Fillmore St.) has an outpost on Fillmore Street, luring local hipsters to it’s fitting rooms like a siren’s song. Margaret O’Leary (2400 Fillmore St.) is a sweater-lovers dream, offering hand knit items to keep you cozy all winter long, or all summer long if you are lucky enough to endure a foggy San Francisco summer.

Fillmore Street also offers a bevy of bookstores, day spas, restaurants, and other fantastic boutiques, so make sure that when you go, you dedicate at least an entire day (and maybe an entire paycheck).
